With bond money at stake, Deer Park ISD is bringing ballots to football game

Two points. First, I regard bond elections in the same way I regard credit card offers. In both cases, someone is asking you to go DEEP into debt and pay multiples of what you originally spent to get back out again. JUST SAY NO.

Second, this little trick is the latest in a very long history of Texas schools skirting the law (or outright violating it) to ram through a bond issue. By having early voting at a football game, where the strongest supporters of the school- especially its athletics department- are concentrated, the school administration gets one hell of a jump on turning out the "yes" vote.

"Just put your X here and your kids get a shiny new scoreboard and Astroturf! Don't worry, someone ELSE will pay the higher property taxes and lose their homes down the road!"

Granted, I believe interscholastic competition, athletic, academic, artistic or otherwise, is a good thing. However, it gets far too much money and far, FAR too much attention. No way should a school go into debt to support any of it...
