Signs of Positive Change...

... it's too early to say for certain, but early reports from the 2006 Libertarian Party national convention in Portland suggest that reformers won one major victory. Virtually the entire existing platform FAILED of renewal in two separate ballots at the convention. Only four planks survived unchanged, and eighteen planks were adopted with modifications.
For the first time in a long time, I feel optimistic about the prospects of the Libertarian Party- if not this year, perhaps in 2008.
Of course, I'll have to see what the new platform looks like, to see if any LRC versions or desired changes made it into those.
Unfortunately, the LRC failed to prevent the hard-liners from requiring second-tier dues payments for officers and candidates, and we didn't even come close to repealing or even moderating the obnoxious Non-Initiation-of-Force Pledge. The next time we can swing at that goal will be 2010.
But now I go into the hard months of my campaign (what little I can run) feeling just a little bit better. Reform and moderation of this party, tonight at least, appears possible.
