A-Kon Pics

(x-post [livejournal.com profile] wlp, [livejournal.com profile] redneckgaijin)

(Note: the LJ icon has nothing to do with the subject- I just wanted to show off an idea that came to me after I made a Usenet post regarding a certain show on ABC Family, formerly Christian Broadcasting Network...)

At long last, I've had all the film developed (what little there is) from this year's A-Kon- at least from my own disposable cameras. (If you're looking for digital cameras, you can bloody well buy me one- plus a computer capable of running the software to decant the images.)

Anyhow, for legal reasons I'm -not- posting the cosplay pics, which were the bulk, publicly. What's here is artists and other stuff.

This year's WLP booth, as of Friday about 3 PM.

I took a couple of pics of attendees at WLP's annual room party. Unfortunately I forgot to do this until late, and that plus the much larger than usual accommodations we had makes it seem like there were fewer people than there were. I only wish I'd been able to take a pic during the Match Game!

These taken in the suite's bedroom, where I ran the long-feature track vs. [livejournal.com profile] bar1scorpio's short-feature weird stuff and AMVs. This room also included the WLP Reading Library, being enjoyed by the gentlemen in the upper pic.

Rather a late shot of the front room, which had the food (at this point long consumed, except for the chips, which weren't touched- what's with THAT? Next year no chips for you!) and the short-feature viewing, under [livejournal.com profile] morphy's technical supervision.

The How-to Hentai panel, the second panel WLP was on Saturday night. The first panel was... well... less. Much, much less, despite BAR-1's and my ill-thought attempts to fill out time on a topic that was DOA. For the not-photographed panel, my apologies to the other participants; for those who attended the Hentai panel, next year will be more organized and MUCH funnier!

Now for a few artists:

James Dawsey, creator of currently on-hiatus Shadowchasers. I think this was taken just before the first panel.

[livejournal.com profile] bar1scorpio (artist for Peter is the Wolf) and, a bit further in background to BAR-1's left, [livejournal.com profile] roninjedi, aka Michael van Slyke. This taken between panels, if memory serves.

The elusive [livejournal.com profile] darkzel! This taken either just before or just after the Hentai panel- again, I forget.

It must be nice to go to conventions and have no responsibilities- no work, no panels, no volunteering, no sales, just three days of fun with a camera and other things. One day I might be able to do that...

What legal reasons prevent you from posting cosplay pics? I've never seen that being a problem with pics from other cons. Does A-Kon have an exclusive no-costume-pics policy?

A few years ago the Bush administration applied federal laws on adult films to the Internet; now anyone who posts photos of actual people to any site containing adult material, regardless of the content of the photos themselves, is liable to prosecution if they do not have proof of identity, proof of age, and proof of consent on file for those persons.

I've got that for the photos of people wearing WLP's shirts; I don't have it for the cosplay shots. I'm taking a gamble by even posting the WLP-related shots in this entry- I don't want to make it worse.

hrmm...

Wouldn't that make myspace, for example, a den of lawbreakers?

In other words, did the law go so far as to *define* a "site"?

It was left deliberately vague and open- essentially ANYTHING on the World Wide Web counts as a website.

Remember, these people are trying to make ANYTHING remotely pornographic illegal- or at least so burdened with regulations as to be effectively illegal. They're not after justice- they just want to enforce their morality.

I bloody well bought you a digital camera -and- a bloody pc to run the software to decant the images, we better see some after the next A-kon! :D

...but I draw the line at buying people new cars. ^^;
