According to the article, the artifact shows signs of being used for flint-knapping. That means pressing the edge of flint to break off flakes and create a sharp edge.
The article also mentions its "life size" nature. If fourteen inches (the length of the artifact) was actually life size thirty millenia ago, then EVOLUTION HAS MUCH TO ANSWER FOR...
*edit* Re-read... the artifact was in fourteen -pieces.- It's 20 cm (8 inches) by 3 cm (slightly more than 1 inch). That takes me from miserably short-changed to merely jealous.
