Well, that was short.
I got to
starcat_jewel's place in Houston, used Russ-not-on-LJ's computer, and found an email saying that ProtoCon is cancelled.
I called the hotel with the godawful reservation cancellation policy, and they'd lost my reservation; seems they overbooked the hotel, so a clerk deleted a ton of reservations.
And the track of Hurricane Ike went further east, so now my home is pretty much ground zero for the worst of the storm once it gets about a hundred miles inland. I can expect hurricane force winds for an hour or two- say, 1-3 AM Saturday morning, at the current forecast.
And my grandmother still refuses to evacuate, so here I am, stuck riding out the storm tomorrow night.
And, since I'd killed the power on damn near everything in my bedroom/office, as I type this it's damn near 90 in here- and the ancient AC unit thinks that's just fine.
Thursdays. Arthur Dent, eat your heart out.

Does you grandmother have a reason for staying put? Animals?

The truth is, she just doesn't want to leave. She doesn't like travelling anymore- she's 92 years old and her feet swell up if she sits in a car or plane for long periods of time.

The only advantage of being here is that I get to sleep in my own bed tonight. Tomorrow night, of course, I don't get to sleep at all.
