Well, due to a mix-up Diamond has already sent its payment for Bootleg #14. For now, at least, that much seems secure.

In a bit I'll send off the first payment of the money I borrowed for Bootleg #13 and #14. However, I also had an opportunity to get a 50% settlement on an older debt, so I sat down to write the check and send that out today.

Along with the offer was a privacy notice. It essentially says that the collections agency, Midland Credit Management, has the right to sell my information to anyone, including "direct marketers or retailers of consumer products and services."

I had torn out and begun to fill out the "Opt Out" form when I read what that form actually said:

"(check box) Please do not disclose my nonpublic personal information with nonaffiliated third parties unless it is permitted by law."

Unless it is permitted by law. You know what this says, right? "We'll only keep your information secret if there's a law against us profiting from it. Of course, you're too stupid to realize that this form does JACK SHIT- except, of course, give us your email, which we didn't have, and verify all the info we did have. This will allow us to sell your info for MORE MONEY! Thanks!"
