Robert Jordan, Wheel of Time author, diagnosed with fatal disease

Considering I got fed up with Jordan's books- referred to in the Huckster! game project as, "The Spiel of Time"- a very long time ago, Jordan's illness has very little effect on me. Lots of people I don't know from Adam get sick and die every day. It's not something I can afford to invest much of my time or attention on.

But it does remind me: I really need to get back to prose writing. Before I got into comics, when I was 20, I actually got halfway through writing two different novels (which sucked) before the computer I wrote them on went deep-6. When I was writing with Eyrie, I wrote three fanfics which, by word count, qualify as novels. (The assembled Fight! Sexy Amazon Hulk-chan might also count as novel-length, although the dramatic structure, such as there is, is definitely not novel type.) But in the last two years, my prose output has been negligible.

Enough. I declare April OvNoWriMo- Overstreet Novel Writing Month. I commit to two thousand words per day on one project- and I choose a probably derivative and unoriginal idea, a sci-fi story I call Safeharbor, as my project.

No, it won't be publicly posted. If I finish it, I'm going to get an agent and try to sell it. Pre-readers, however, will be accepted.

No, there will be no sex and no absurdly huge-breasted women. Little things aside, Safeharbor isn't set in that kind of a future. (Let the wailing and gnashing of teeth begin.)

Yes, this will be in addition to my other, seedier projects: in particular I've promised to get Yaoi Not Ninja High School written pretty quick, too, and also the next Misadventures of Chichi-chan storyline needs to be turned from ideas to script.

But I've wanted to write and publish prose novels since high school. That was fourteen years ago.

It's long past time I got started- little things aside, unlike Jordan I don't have health insurance for checkups and the like. The only way I'll know I have a terminal disease is if and when I terminate.
