Up until about 9:30 PM, I had NO idea in the world what to write next. My mind was still hung up on the awful, awful five hundred last words from last night, and how those would need to be redone entirely into a much longer segment.

Then things flowed. A scene just opened itself up, and our heroine Sally manages through ignorance to win over the true loyalty of a lot of people. This not only gives her a glimpse of hope, it provides the first glimpse of the loyalty she'll need- the personal loyalty, not just the fear of Authority reprisal she's been running on thus far- to succeed in what she'll attempt before the end of the story.

Anyway, here's the stats.

Day 15/25
Daily quota: 3,620/2,000
Goal: 31,463/50,000

Have to attend a funeral for a family friend tomorrow; probably not so productive, but we'll see.

Drove up from today's funeral (yes, a funeral on Easter) to see one of our house cats battling a snake across the yard. I'm double-checking now, but from what I saw it was a coral snake- narrow yellow band, broad red, broad black, repeat. I was unable to kill it before it burrowed off into the pine needles next to the old garage.

The cat is inside now, apparently unbitten and uninjured. We're going to watch him the next hour or so; if he did get bitten, that's about his life expectancy. If not, then I'm going to put my foot down about the house cats going outside, at least for a while; let the ferals battle the snakes around here.

And now I'm going to have trouble sleeping tonight. If the mice we have can get in through the walls, a coral snake can sure as hell follow... and one enterprising mouse got within a foot of my HEAD last night looking for crumbs.
