A few minutes ago I overheard a bit of Ch. 11 Houston local news talking about NHL hockey.

Seems the Pittsburg Penguins are considering moving and/or selling their team... to Houston.

Two thoughts about this:

(1) As I said when the Dallas Stars were established, Texas needs ice sports the same way polar bears need Bermuda shorts. The only thing more ridiculous than a hockey team based in a state where the outdoor temperature during the playoffs is in three digits is that said team won the Stanley Cup a few years back...

(2) I don't follow hockey, but I'd always thought that, just as the Philadelphia Flyers fill the "win or lose, we'll fuck you up" role occupied in the NFL by the Oakland Raiders, the Pittsburg Penguins fill the "loveable losers" role, much like, for example, the Cincinnati Bungles... I mean Bengals. Now, not only would moving such a long-historied and presumably beloved team be a minor sin, but considering the Astros, the Texans, and the erstwhile Oilers... does Houston really NEED another major sports franchise best known for its repeated failures?
