Due to breaking-in problems I wasn't able to use the Exploder for this year's trip to A-Kon.

Well, as of Friday the Exploder is running and street-legal. I officially have my own, non-borrowed wheels again.

Yesterday I fulfilled a promise to myself to go golfing as soon as the Exploder was running. However, the unseasonable coolness of this past May has completely vanished now, so my decision to attempt golf on fairways with the temperature above 100 degrees in the hottest part of the afternoon was a bit ill-advised. I got in nine holes, tried cooling off, and decided to head home before either sunburn or heat stroke set in.

How did I shoot? About as bad as ever- I can only afford a couple of golfing rounds per year, unfortunately, so I'm a horrible golfer. I enjoy the sport enough to keep plugging at it when my finances allow, though.

Anyway, Monday I get another tire replaced, take the spare off the front end, and have an alignment done- then we'll see if that gets rid of the shimmy the Exploder currently has at highway speeds. There are a host of other minor problems, but now at least the beast is usable.

Plans are officially afoot, as of now, to get WLP back on the broader con circuit. First goal in that direction is Anime Weekend Atlanta- I'm going to send in money for a dealer's booth tomorrow, barring any sorry-full-up emails from the staff there. I am also thinking- thinking- about getting a booth at ComiCon International 2008. (This year, even if there are vacancies, it's just not cost-effective or time-feasible.) Other conventions are being considered, but they'll have to lie within a radius of about 900 miles- say, from El Paso up to St. Louis and over to Atlanta.

... hell, let's pull out the atlas and see what major cities are within that range (excluding Illinois- nothing but nothing will get me to deal with Illinois Revenue ever again).

From east to west, arcing counterclockwise on a point centered on my home, here's the list of farthest-out cities:

Tallahassee, FL
Atlanta, GA
Knoxville, TN
Louisville, KY
St. Louis, MO
Kansas City, MO/KS
Topeka, KS
Amarillo, TX
El Paso, TX

Inside that arc lies pretty much anything in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky, with most of Georgia and small portions of Florida, Indiana and Kansas thrown in. Anything farther afield will require subsidy, partnership with another con dealer, or a truly large event- like, for example, ComiCon International.

Enough rambling for now- I need to work today, either on scripts for PitW or Chichi-chan or, more likely, on the long-delayed, now-imperative WLP website redesign.
