Please, PLEASE let today's Rassmussen daily tracker be part of a trend...

... I don't predict results in SC, but I do say what those results mean to me for Feb. 5.

A very minor incident that, nonetheless, gets my goat.

For those not watching the news, Obama has his landslide: 54% of the vote with three-quarters of the vote in. Clinton comes in second with 27%- almost precisely HALF the votes Obama got. Edwards came in third... and may not get any delegates at all out of the state.

As for the three cable news networks' coverage:

MSNBC (my preference): "Wow, Bill Clinton really blew it for Hillary."
CNN: "Wow, Obama really kicked Hillary's ass."
FOX News: "Florida Gov. Charlie Crist endorses John McCain... oh, and there was something in South Carolina, too."

The total vote in the South Carolina Republican primary was 442,918.

The total vote in the South Carolina Democratic primary was 529,789.

That's over 85,000 more Democrats than Republicans.

To compare, the Democratic primary turnout in 2004 was only 291,175. Bush was running for re-election essentially unopposed.

In 2000, the Republicans had 573,101 voters in their primary. The Democrats don't appear to have had a primary in South Carolina in 2000.

In 2004, George Bush got 937,974 votes to John Kerry's 661,699

What all these numbers mean is this: South Carolina is in play. The Republicans cannot rely on its electoral votes this year. With South Carolina in play, you can safely call Georgia and Mississippi as up for grabs as well.

Which makes the Solid South no longer solidly republican.

Yet more evidence that a gargantuan Democratic landslide is in the offing come November...
