Republican chutzpah rides again.
Feb. 4th, 2009 06:15 pmToday the Republicans are trying to throw a raft of amendments into the Senate version o fthe stimulus package.
One such amendment would have made the Bush tax cuts permanent... well, that's not quite right.
It would have SURPASSED the Bush tax cuts, making the top tax rate for all income tax, individual and corporate, 25%. It's currently 35%, and was 38% in 2000.
The vote, incidentally, was 36 in favor, 61 against. I don't know what the roll call was, or even what the specific name of the amendment was...
... but it's truly astounding that, in the face of everything, 36 Senators- including both those from Texas, I caught their names in the roll call- believe that the cure for the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, after years of throwing more tax burden on the poor, is... to throw even MORE tax burden on the poor.
Everyone knew they're shameless, but I'm honestly beginning to believe the Republicans are out of their minds...
