Dear Whoever is In Charge at MSNBC:
Why do you continue to employ
a known Nazi apologist and racist as a commentator on your cable news network? Further, why do you continue to treat this person as if he were an acceptable member of intellectual society? Why do you treat his insights, which one commentator has characterized as, "
the kind of horrendous drivel that would embarrass a crazy uncle spouting off at a family reunion as everyone stands by awkwardly and shuffles their feet," as if they are valid, supportable, and defensible?
Why, in short, do you give Patrick J. Buchanan a bully pulpit to deceive the American people and to defend the indefensible? If Buchanan is on your network only to be a punching bag, that would be one thing- but it would require that he actually take a lick now and again. Instead, Buchanan is treated with respect and even
admiration as a former Presidential candidate and speechwriter to Richard Nixon. Nineteen times out of twenty his outrageous statements go by with no reaction other than, on occasion,
agreement.
It is, as a general rule, admirable to have opposing views on commentary shows. However, the opposing views must be arguing from good faith and based on true, factual evidence. Pat Buchanan has no use for facts; they get in the way of his efforts to defend racism and to paint Adolf Hitler as a heroic figure. Having Pat Buchanan as the dominant conservative viewpoint on a network does not discredit conservatism; rather, it discredits the network that signs his paychecks.
I strongly urge you to reconsider your continued employment of Pat Buchanan.
