Got o0ut of the house later than planned, then had to turn around and go back- forgot to pack
the TV, the DVD player, and the charging cord for the laptop I'm currently using. The delays meant I had to cancel my intended stop to get a haircut, so now after driving most of the day in a hat means the hair surrounding my bald pate has (as usual) grown wings.
Spent over an hour in Baton Rouge traffic.
Got to Ocean Springs, MS at 8:50 PM- managed to make up a lot of time on the road. Got to the Studio 6 I had reserved online...
... I've never stayed at a Studio 6 before, and I didn't know they roll up the sidewalks and turn out the lights at 8 PM.
The "courtesy phone" sent me straight to voicemail.
After some stewing (and a phone call to a friend so I'd have an audience to bitch at), I called the Motel 6 800 number. I then spent nearly half an hour pacing up and down the walk in front of the Studio 6 on hold until the supervisor of the first person I spoke to finally found out what was wrong...
... my reservation had somehow gotten fucked up. I'm pretty sure it's the Motel 6 website's fault, but whatever happened, they had me down to check in TOMORROW and check out MONDAY. Which does me no good.
And, since the Studio 6 had no idea I was coming, they weren't going to answer any phones until MORNING.
I ended up backtracking clear back to Gulfport- out by the airport, only two blocks away from the hotel I stayed at for Coastcon two years ago, and a location I'd wanted to avoid due to long and horrible drives to the coliseum. (Also, this Motel 6 will cost me close to $40 more for the weekend's stay.) Got here and checked in just after 10 PM- which means all the hamburger joints crowding US 49 and I-10 closed their lobbies, and I did NOT want to crank the big borrowed van again tonight.
So, walk over to Wallyworld, nearly get run in the driveway by a jackass in a pickup just getting off work at a Mexican restaurant, got some crackers and a zero-calorie drink, came back to the hotel...
... and spent an hour trying to get the damn wifi to work. My room is in the corner of the building, with the desk (and its attendant electrical plugs) against the wall on the edge of the building. Unfortunately, the wifi only works on the other side of the room, while the laptop is sitting on the bed... with the electrical cord stretched precariously across the room, because the ancient battery doesn't hold charge for longer than about an hour.
And that is why I'm only now reporting that I'm all right.
BTW, this show cost me $305 for my space, $200 for gas, $200 for hotel, and $100 for food/supplies budget... plus half of whatever Instant Attitudes merchandise I sell goes straight back to them... so my expenses for this show are going to be $800 or so PLUS a lot of merchandise costs.
And the previous time I was here, two years ago, I sold just about $1000 the whole weekend. (And had to replace a car battery, AND lost a large consignment of plush that ended up costing me $300 to settle... aside from one bright spot, it was a hell weekend, and THIS one's not looking so good thus far.)
I only hope there's some fun to be had this weekend... or at least less shit.
