(reposting via Dreamwidth- it's going to be tough as hell to get into this habit. Once this post goes up, I'll delete the first.)

Simply put, there's a less-conservative and a more-conservative party. One party backs Paul Ryan's plan, which effectively kills Medicare and Medicaid while cutting taxes for the rich and for mega-corporations.

And then there's the party that says this is legitimate, and that we should not call the other party out for wanting to leave the poor to die broke and in agony.

"If the main question is going to be what do we do about Medicare costs, any proposal that Paul makes will be painted, factually, from the perspective of those who disagree with it, as cutting benefits over the long term," Obama said. "And I raise that not because we shouldn't have a series discussion about it. I raise that because we're not going to be able to do anything about any of these entitlements if what we do is characterized, whatever proposals are put out there, as, well, you know, that's -- the other party is being irresponsible; the other party is trying to hurt our senior citizens."

So, that's Obama's plan. The question is not whether Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security get cut- but by how much. We saw this when Obama stacked his deficit reduction panel with anti-entitlement men like Bowles and "SS is a Million Teats" Simpson. He's merely waited for the Republicans to come out with Ryan's proposal so he can, later this week, propose his own cuts to these already underfunded programs and be celebrated for not being as horrible as the Republicans.

When Obama rolls out his plan, it'll include massive Medicare and Medicaid cuts. It'll raise the eligibility age for Medicare and Social Security. And the only tax hikes it'll include will be ending the Bush tax cuts for the top bracket- no new brackets, no soak-the-rich taxes like over 70% of America wants, and certainly not enough to actually balance the budget and begin paying down the national debt.

And the Democrats in Congress, being constitutionally incapable of producing their own plan (as I explained the other day), will roll over for it, because the alternative is Paul "I Heart Ayn Rand" Ryan. A lot of them will even take credit for "saving Grandma from the evil Republicans," when the truth is Grandma will be in worse shape than ever.

Some of you continue to vote Democrat because you're voting against conservatives. Well, congratulations- the Democrats know this, and so they'll keep getting more and more conservative because they don't need to do a single thing you want them to to keep your vote. They'll destroy what they claim to be their legacy, their agenda, their entire platform for the sole purpose of retaining political power.

Only Nixon could go to China.

And only Obama could destroy the social safety net.

I'll be watching on Wednesday- but that's what I expect to happen.
