So, today Barack Obama "asked" Congress to meet in joint session Wednesday, September 7...
... at the same time as a televised Republican presidential debate, which had been scheduled for weeks beforehand.
There is no other way to look at it than this: Obama tried to bigfoot that debate, making him look- to be blunt- like a petty dickhead.
Speaker of the House John Boehner- who is, if you didn't know, a Republican- told the President, "No, we're NOT holding a joint session. Move your speech back a day."
The White House said, "But you said it was okay!"
Boehner's office replied, "On what planet did we ever say THAT?"
And Obama backed down, moving his speech back a day.
So, in an attempt to look like he's actually doing something about the economy, and to blot out the Republican debate in the process, Obama made himself look like a bully, then a wimp.
CHRIST. If you're going to pull a dick move, at least have the balls to follow through with it. I fully expect Boehner to demand that Obama give his speech wearing a clown suit- and that, in the name of bipartisanship, Obama will agree.
We REALLY need something else... unfortunately, Pew surveyed Americans on a third-party Presidential candidacy, using Ralph Nader, Bernie Sanders, Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, and Donald Trump as possible candidates. Only two of the five broke into double-figure percentages: Paul at 13% and Trump at 15%. There are just too many people who think that the candidate who isn't Republican must, of course, be liberal... despite the ever-growing mountain of evidence to the contrary.
I need to look up how much it would cost to emigrate to England. I'm more and more of the opinion that we're going to have President Perry and an all-Republican Congress in 2013, and the resulting nation will NOT be a nice one to live in...
