A Dallas friend of mine and talented artist named Mischa Jordan, who has helped out at the WLP booth at A-Kon the last couple years, is going to have a baby in the next month or two. One of the complications of the pregnancy is a condition that makes her too dizzy and disoriented to drive, so not only was she been out of work for a couple of weeks, but she's expecting a prolonged maternity leave without pay. She was really counting on her job's medical benefits, which are supposed to kick in right about now, to help her and her family get through the next few months.
The most recent post on her Facebook page:
Unlike what I posted about yesterday, Mischa's worries are direct and immediate. She risks losing her home in the coming month or two. She risks massive medical bills for the delivery and postnatal care of her child, plus her own current condition.
Mischa's SNAP Medicaid application has been rejected because in theory she's too wealthy and covered by her job (which shortly she won't have anymore). In Texas you have to be well under half the poverty line in annual income and assets to qualify for Medicaid, and they will seize assets to recompense the state for the aid.
What she needs is aid with making bills and covering the hospital costs for the upcoming birth. She also needs- IMMEDIATELY- help in trying to get Cigna and her employers to fulfill their promises. Granted, this is Texas, so there very well might not be anything that can be done... but the effort should be made.
So- ESPECIALLY anyone in the Dallas area, but any help is appreciated- anyone able to help someone out other than me?

Oh gods. I am so scared. I just got told by Cigna that I do not, in fact, have any health care benefits waiting for me because I never applied for them. This is the first time I've heard that I had to apply for them. Everyone else has said they were an automatic thing if I worked at least a year. I am so scared! I now have no money waiting for me now or when I have my child. I don't know what to do!!!
