So, earlier today I took Bobby to the vet.

Bobby was born one of the ferals around our house. His father was a tom passing through the area with a natural bobbed tail. Bobby's tail is slightly longer than his father's was, with a 45 degree angle permanent kink midway- about four inches long total.

When Bobby was about six months old, he showed up one day with a large wound in his shoulder. Apparently he'd caught a bullet there. My grandmother wanted to save Bobby, so we took him to the vet, and he had the forelimb attached to that shoulder removed. We'd just lost another three-legged cat the previous February- only three months before, so it was -almost- back to normal for us.

That was two years ago.

Today Bobby was meowing in obvious pain, going back and forth to the litter box and straining- and failing- to do his business. A quick trip to the vet later, I found out that his urethra was blocked- and his bladder was swollen to four times its normal size. The vet took Bobby straight into surgery, saying he'd have to stay at least overnight.

I didn't ask, but I expect a bill of not less than $200 and possibly as high as $600, depending. (Bobby's amputation ran over $500, two years ago- including neutering, shots, and three days of board.) I've technically got the cash, but it was earmarked for other things...
