Anime Viewing Happiness...

TenchiMuyo GXP Vol. 5 arrived today, courtesy of Blockbuster.com .

Volume 5, incidentally, contains episode 17, in which the characters of the main (original) TenchiMuyo series appear, so as to demonstrate that they know GXP's main character.



(This isn't a screen capture- it's a still, but the setting will give you an idea of the scene I'm about to describe. The four figures (three people and one cabbit) at right are Washuu Hakubi (main Tenchi series character, the Universe's Greatest (Mad) Scientist, 20,000 years of science in a 12-year-old's body), Fuku-chan (the cabbit, GXP character, core of a massively powerful starship), Tenchi Masaki (main character of the main Tenchi series- makes sense, doesn't it?) and Seina Yamada (main character of GXP, which makes no sense, since neither G, X, nor P appear anywhere in his name).

Here follows a rough transcript of the happy-making scene.

SEINA: ... so, Tenchi-sempai, does a woman named Washuu Hakubi live with you?

WASHUU: (suddenly there RIGHT BEHIND Seina, where she clearly wasn't moments before): Somebody mention my name?

SEINA: YAAAAHH! Who are YOU?



WASHUU: I'm Washuu-chan.

(Scene cuts away from cute little Washuu looking very mischevious to Tenchi answering Seina's disbelieving questions.)

SEINA: That's Washuu?

TENCHI: That's right.

SEINA: The greatest scientist in the universe? Fuku's mother?(1) 20,000 years old? But she's so small...

WASHUU (off-camera): Seina...

(The camera cuts to the following, which IS a multiple-screen capture, tracking up from bottom at a fairly tight frame to (eventually) get to Washuu's face...)



WASHUU: Would you believe it if I looked like this? (winks, blows kiss)

NOW THAT'S WHY I LOVE THAT CHARACTER!! Generous amounts of puberty in a half second, plus a wicked loving sense of humor and the crushing intellect to back it up!

That scene enough ensures that, if I pull a good run at AnimeFEST, I'm going to go ahead and buy volume 5, at the very least, at the Funimation booth. (I presume Funimation will have a presence at a convention in their home city, anyhow...)

Anyway: WASHUU-CHAN, YOU'RE THE GREATEST!

WASHUU-CHAN, YOU'RE WONDERFUL!

WASHUU-CHAN, WASHUU-CHAN, BANZAI, BANZAI!!

(and I LOVE TENCHI MUYO! GXP!!!)



(1) Creator, anyway, but she thinks of Fuku-chan as a daughter. Please don't investigate too closely.


EDIT: Oh, and doctorpinkerton, I know you would prefer to be known as the Universe's Greatest Mad Scientist, but to be honest Washuu is much easier on the eyes...
