The BBC has announced the new Doctor Who- the youngest ever.
As I commented elsewhere... how many more incarnations until the Doctor has to deal with acne? (Not counting a certain Tom Baker serial.)

I'm not concerned about unknowns. Virtually every Doctor actor is an unknown outside of Great Britain. But I'm an old school Doctor Who fan, one of the many who mourns the evil influence that was John Nathan-Turner. I remember when the Doctor was an older, fatherly (or, in the first incarnation, grandfatherly) figure. I remember when the companions weren't romantic interests, but assistants and apprentice heroes, people to be taught and protected rather than snogged.
Yes, the 9 and 10 romances with Rose (and the unrequited love of Martha) were nice, but both are now closed books. The dysfunctional relationship with Donna was well done, for my part- Donna was the brake where Rose was the accelerator. I suspect, though, that the Smith choice will result in more romantic Companions and much less of the kind of Doctor I remember.
But we'll see. I was surprised by Tennant and how well he did it; maybe Matt Smith will surprise me.
(If not, expect to see a pizza delivery sign tacked to the TARDIS.)
