Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight.com defends the turd of a Senate bill. However, a broader-based comment to this post says pretty much all that needs to be said, not about healthcare, but about the first year of the Obama presidecy:

One other thing:

"The left is fracturing over this issue in ways that are nothing like what I've experienced since I began covering politics for a living"

It's not just this issue. It's all the crap that's come from Obama since he took office.

I could forgive Obama for this shitty health care reform bill if we'd at least gotten some action on ending our pointless, bloody, and costly foreign wars.

I could forgive Obama for ensuring that we'll probably be in Afghanistan for another decade at least if we could have had some meaningful reform of the financial markets.

I could forgive Obama for bailing out the banking industry and setting them up to fail even worse a few years down the road, if we'd gotten some accountability for Bush era criminals.

I could forgive Obama for letting the entire Bush administration walk despite the fact that they committed crimes if we'd at least gotten some meaningful action on DOMA and DADT.

And on and on.

Obama has been kicking his base in the teeth nonstop for the last eleven months, Nate. Are you really surprised that lots of us are finally deciding that we've had enough?
