The past few posts I've made, I've had responses from people who not only aren't on my Friend or Friend-of lists, but aren't on much of any mutual friends lists. The -last- post I made drew responses from Scott Kurtz (PvP) and Aaron Williams (Nodwick, among other things)- people I really never expected to even notice my existence, much less take an active role in discussion. Now, since the last post was about Kurtz, I can see his finding it via a self-Google... but Williams?

I'm beginning to wonder two things.

(1) Is this LJ getting reposted somewhere, on some REALLY popular website, that I don't know about? (If it is, most of the time it's boring hell out of a lot of people...)

(2) Just how many lurkers are out there reading but not friending, anyhow?

(And, of course, (2) begs (2a,) why?!?)

When you link to shit, people can see it in their website referrers. Duh.

Then they blab to somebody else and your eljay gets flooded.

Then Kurtz has a better referral tracker than I do- the stats I get don't reveal referrers until at -least- the day after. He responded within a couple hours of the post, countering a WLP regular's statement.

Also, as I mentioned, this isn't the first time- not by a long shot- that I've got responses coming absolutely out of nowhere.

Most likely is probably someone who is a friend-of-friend passing the word along, or browsing your posts on other peoples' friends list. Webcomics seems to have this weird kind of hive mind, where everyone knows when anyone else is being talked about, if you allow yourself to pay attention to it.

I searched for my name at www.technorati.com

I found your livejournal post.

The comment about how I ruined Dork Storm and left Kovalic with a bill was so fucking hilarious, that I told Aaron about it and gave him a link.

This case is CLOSED!

I never said you ruined DSP (was my wording that bad?) I said that that I was told INCORRECTLY that DSP (rather than you) took a financial hit that took DSP a couple of years to recover from. And you have corrected me on the inaccurate information that I had been given.

Yeah?

And who gave you that information?

Crap. Having looked up what "Eisner" this award is named after I can't do my poorly drawn strip now. Me not keeping up on such a thing, I thought it was named after that Ex-Disney tart. Wiki is a good thing.

Yeah, Will Eisner, creator of the Spirit. A comic artists' artist. One of the greats. I've seen some of his originals at various gallery showings at EMU. And the award does have some credibility to it, given that they don't just hand them out to whatever Marvel/DC clone is making 'waves' at the moment.

And not just a great comic artist- Eisner was an early advocate for artists' rights in an industry where the publisher owned all.

Will Eisner was the anti-Michael Eisner, in my opinion.

That said, it's a shame we won't see the gag comic.

It was probably going to be a one panel thing that would ask why someone would be proud to have an award named after THAT GUY after quoting a good part of the deeduhdee strip. As you see that wouldn't quiiiiiiiiiiiite work as well as I'd have wanted it to.

I'm a EPU fan who stumbled across your livejournal and has since become intrigued by your political views. I think your livejournal is -interesting-, but I don't really -know- you, per se, and so I feel the friend tag to be very much over presumptuous (I generally reserve it for people I actually consider my friends.) Nevertheless, your poigniant and insightful writing keeps me coming back to your livejournal. *shrug*
