Today I spent a few minutes trying to find where I'd filed my father's last statement. (I don't say will because Dad, despite his best efforts, didn't know how to write a will and produced a document that couldn't be processed through the law. But I wanted to re-read what he -had- written.) Didn't find it.
What I did do was decide, after eight years since his death, to throw out the paperwork from his old business. It's been sitting in a file cabinet next to my desk- it, plus about a hundred either unused or reclaimable file folders.
I've decided to replace his files with my own- I already have my own file cabinet, plus what's on this machine (backed up regularly), but I haven't been filing the mail orders. The original orders get chucked into a box and stashed somewhere; there's several boxes of the things now, and I want to reclaim the space and make things findable again.
So now I have drawer space and a bunch of empty files, and when I have idle time I'll take out a wad of old orders from storage, knock the dust and bugs out, and file 'em.
I may even do a mass mailing sometime in the future to try to get old customers to come back... we'll see. For now I just want to fight entropy a little.
