I Wish I Could Laugh...

OK. Susan Combs is running for Texas State Comptroller, to replace Carole Keeton Rylander.

She's -currently- Texas Agriculture Commissioner. As Ag Commissioner, she enacted policies which effectively prohibited parents giving sodas to their kids for lunches (if a kid has a Coke at lunchtime and an inspector sees it, the school district risks losing ALL funds from the state for the year- retroactively), restricting or banning snack bars (returning kids to the one-choice-or-go-hungry lunch line of foul food), and outlawing frying in school cafeterias (costing school districts millions of dollars to replace cafeteria equipment). Although these changes cost schools MASSIVE amounts of money, she's campaigning claiming to have PROVIDED millions of bucks to schools as Ag Commissioner.

I refer to Combs as chief of Texas' Fat Police.

I bring this up because of this comic. It's coming. It's on the way. Don't laugh -too- hard...

I'm more concerned that her opponent is basing his entire campaign on the fact that she wrote a steamy romance novel 15 years ago. Honestly, you'd think a guy with the name "Fred Head" would know better than to get into a junior-high-level titillation-fest like this.

It doesn't change my thinking on the topic -- I'm not voting for ANY Republican this election, period -- but so help me, if it weren't for that, I'd vote for her just because of him; we don't need to be rewarding that kind of behavior. This is clearly the equivalent of "Vote for the crook, it's important."

I know this probably will do no good, but there is a Libertarian candidate also running- Mike Burris. He's a moderate Libertarian who actually has experience in the state government bureaucracy.

And quite frankly, Fred Head's chances aren't much better than Mike Burris's.

I will vote Libertarian in this election only if there is no Democrat running. I've been dealing with a couple of loons elseJournal the past few days, and they've got me Irish up again about Libertarianism in general.
