Got in a playtest each of Sakura and Eternal Battle GZ. Eternal Battle needs to be sped up, but I have ideas for that. Sakura's very much fine-tuning- to the point that I think I'm going to go ahead and see what artists are willing to do a LOT of spec art. Other than that, nothing but work this weekend.
Was ready and waiting to, at long last, pick up the Milkmaid model built by A. V. Designs. It was in Houston... but it was in a storage unit... in a complex flooded by all the rains of the October that Roared. The water didn't go down fast enough for Jerry at AVD to get it by Sunday morning.
Friday was, all around, a VERY bad day. Started out all right, got to George R. Brown early, got my choice of tables, got set up, and then got into the just-begun line for pre-registration. About forty people in front of me. Unfortunately there was only ONE person processing pre-reg... and this person was either the registration chair or some other con committee person, because he kept STOPPING THE LINE while he got on phones or did other things, leaving people standing for HOURS. I got in line at 9:15, got out of line at 11:30- spending the last five minutes standing RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM while he tried to find out if the con had permission to give out free cup ramen as a Funimation Network promotion. (It didn't- Aramark loves its monopoly.) If I hadn't already set up, I would have demanded a refund and gone HOME. As it was, I'd missed the prime selling time for Friday in the artist's alley.
Furthermore, I received a message on my cel phone just after getting out of the prereg line. I'd just applied for the fourth time this year for credit card processing. The phone call was from MCCS- they wanted to know, did I sell adult materials? Yes, I did. Well, I'd have to register as an adult website with Mastercard and Visa, and there was a $1500 fee for this service. WHAT? It took most of the rest of the day playing phone tag to get in contact with the people who I applied with to get that straightened out. Between that and EXTREMELY slow sales- remember, I'd missed sale primetime?- I sold less than $70 on Friday, and I never quite caught up to last year's OniCon sales after that. (OniCon 2005 sales were over $650.)
Also, Scott McNeil stopped by my table a couple times on Friday, the first time to jaw a minute, the second time to point out my display to his SO. Scheduling was so disorganized that not only did Scott, a GOH, not know where he was supposed to be, but neither did his handler, who was right next to him all the time. There were no maps of any con function until midday Saturday, no schedules except a small supply that evaporated late Friday- no perceptible organization at all.
There were 4,000 attendees this year, but if OniCon doesn't get reorganized REALLY fast, there might not be a next year...

Date: 2006-11-08 04:07 am (UTC)Your listed three-day daily income comes to 615.90. Not a big deal either way. Is close enough. Perhaps a rounding error.
Your total listed expenses come to $193. Bwah?
