It's cold, but I'm not writing about that.

I need to be writing stuff, but my productivity is being eaten alive by Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday, but I'm not writing about that.

No, I'm writing because I've pulled a muscle in my upper left chest, connecting the armpit to about the bottom of the breast. The line from armpit down the left side to that point is very sore and tender to the touch. At present it's annoying, nothing more. I presume it happened while sleeping night before last, because I wasn't aware of it until yesterday, and most of the time even now I'm not much aware of it.

What makes me aware is that, about once every hour to two hours, the muscle has a momentary twinge of pain- slightly more painful than being stuck with a pin. When it hits, the center of the pain is beneath and slightly to the left of my left nipple...

... and the brevity and suddenness of the twinge gives me some concerns about my heart...

... even though, intellectually, I know it's unlikely. The pain is not a shooting pain, nor does it linger past the most momentary twinge. My arm doesn't hurt at all. My heart doesn't labor, I don't experience dizziness, etc. etc. etc.

But, considering I've put on ten pounds in the past month, it's something I really didn't need.

I may seek out a doctor (if I can find one that takes cash up here) next week and sink money I don't have into an exam, if this persists. Hopefully, though, it goes away instead.

In the meantime... damn, it's chilly in here.

Twinges and doctors

Yeah, see the doctor. Check around for one that doesn't take insurance (rare)-- Why? They're usually a lot less expensive (somebody has to make up the difference between what insurance pays and what things actually cost...)
And, try the usual hot packs on the sore muscles, and if you have an old T-shirt, wear it to sleep with your left arm trapped next to your body (not thru the sleeve). It will speed healing.
When I was younger, I played baseball, and was good enough to be a pitcher (relief). This fix works for all sorts of strains in the chest, shoulder, and upper arm. Then start doing stretches in the morning after you get up- they really do work to loosten up your muscles to prevent this sort of thing from happening to you.
And, my friend; remember- the cemetaries are full of "healthy people who don't need to see a doctor for this silly little thing".
You have stories to write, tales to tell...
