redneckgaijin: (doubt disbelief bullshit)
Why is it that nobody seems to remember that the Revealation of John of Patmos was NOT written in English, a language that didn't exist at the time, but in Greek?

And that the Greeks did not use Arabic position-dependent numerals, but a system that recycled Greek letters?

That, in fact, Arabic numerals were not invented, as we know them, for at least SEVEN HUNDRED YEARS after John wrote, maybe longer?

And thus that, whatever the meaning of the value six hundred and sixty-six, the three characters 666 would have conveyed no meaning whatever to John?

Why hasn't anybody brought that up? At all? Anyone? Bueller?

(Edit: I had to break in a new user icon for this, although it strictly doesn't apply to my feelings here...)
