Goldwater's granddaughter votes for Obama

Money quote:

Myself, along with my siblings and a few cousins, will not be supporting the Republican presidential candidates this year. We believe strongly in what our grandfather stood for: honesty, integrity, and personal freedom, free from political maneuvering and fear tactics. I learned a lot about my grandfather while producing the documentary, Mr. Conservative Goldwater on Goldwater. Our generation of Goldwaters expects government to provide for constitutional protections. We reject the constant intrusion into our personal lives, along with other crucial policy issues of the McCain/Palin ticket.

In other words, freedom and conservatism- conservatism as it is practiced today- are now mutually exclusive concepts.

Barry Goldwater stood for constitutional government- the only times he opposed civil rights legislation was when he felt it unconstitutional. He stood against individual prejudice for any reason. He was an advocate of women's rights. Most of all, he stood against corruption and dishonesty in office- to the point of opposing members of his own party when they crossed the line.

There are no Goldwaters left in the Republican Party, indeed nowhere on the political right at all anymore. Goldwater conservatives have been pushed out of the conservative movement, to the point that some are joining the liberal Democrats.

It has yet to be proven that the Democratic Party will make a firm stand for individual freedom. Certainly they did nothing but cave in, again and again, to Republicans seeking to strip that liberty away over the past eight years, even during the past two years when Democrats supposedly controlled Congress.

It has been proven beyond all doubt, however, that the Republicans are actively hostile to freedom. They want to control our bodies, our hearts, our souls- and they will stop at nothing to gain and hold power over us. In such a party, there's no room for a man who advocates Constitutionally limited government, equality under the law, honesty and fairness. There's only room for the ignorant, the ideologues, and the ruthlessly corrupt.

... but in the McCain camp, apparently, the election is over.

Which isn't surprising, since a lot of polls out today show several red states either flipping completely from red to blue (Indiana, North Carolina) or flirting with it (Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska).

I've already voted. Have you?

If not, and if your state permits early voting, get out there and let's complete the triumphal march to the GOP funeral; cause of death, shot own foot off.
