[livejournal.com profile] filkertom beat me to posting on this, but...

Lt. Gov. Bauer appeals to his base in South Carolina:

Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer has compared giving people government assistance to "feeding stray animals."

Bauer, who is running for the Republican nomination for governor, made his remarks during a town hall meeting in Fountain Inn that included state lawmakers and about 115 residents.

"My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that. And so what you've got to do is you've got to curtail that type of behavior. They don't know any better," Bauer said.

So, you want to know where you are with the GOP? If you're poor, you're an animal, nothing more.

Bauer later Friday told The Greenville News he wasn't saying people on government assistance "were animals or anything else."

Yes you were, you arrogant, ignorant bastard.

He goes on to say, in essence, that single parents, underage parents, and parents who can't get off work to come to teacher conferences don't deserve government aid.

Or, in other words, if you need help, you shouldn't get it.

"We're going to have to do things like that. We can't afford to keep just giving money away."

Yes, because heaven knows the tax burden on the rich, and on corporations, is just SOOOOOO HEAVY in South Carolina.

Bullshit. Anybody want to look and see how much money the government of South Carolina "gives away" in no-bid or buddy-system contracts, or subsidies to business?

(Haven't got a room yet, and not personally looking to stay in the con hotel- cutting costs if I can.)

Y'all know them New Orleans 'Ain'ts?

Turns out this year... they Is.

(And Minnesota has no excuses for not beating them- they coughed up four turnovers, plus two critical and idiotic penalties in the overtime drive.)

Anyway, the Saints go on to play the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl- and sorry, [livejournal.com profile] doctorpinkerton, but in that game, especially considering how poorly the Saints played in the back half of today's game, I'd pick the Colts by at least two touchdowns.
