Monday I have jury duty. Yay.

Now, I would like to actually serve on a jury, although my attitude in general pretty much guarantees I'll never be on (see, I'm a thinker, and lawyers hate those). Odds are, though, that I'll be out of the courthouse in enough time to catch the 1 PM showing of Journey to the Center of the Earth. Anyone seen it, and what do you think?

Also, listed on the "Coming Soon" sign is Tropic Thunder, the Ben Stiller movie that people keep complaining about for the use of the word "retard." (Never mind that, in the clips I've seen, the whole point is that the people who use the word are clearly not people to be emulated.) Any thoughts on that one, either?

Never saw Journey to the Center of the Earth but I did see Tropic Thunder. I liked it a lot. I did not expect an Emmy winning plot but to have a good laugh and it certainly gave the goods on that. I will say that people who are easily offended should not watch it as they will find something that offends them and then they will go whining about how offended they are to their blog...

Actually, I've found that for lower-stakes cases, they really just want to make sure you don't know the accused or have been convicted of a similar crime. They had no problem with me as a juror in a DUI trial.

Last tune I was called up was for domestic disturbance and violation of restraining order. Both prosecutor and defense essentially tried the case in jury selection. I brought up the point that sometimes laws weren't always fair as part of this, and I figure that was enough to get me eliminated.

Did see Journey to the Center of the Earth, it's a kids flick, that loses a LOT if you don't see it in 3D. And if that's not the version they're offering, I'd just hold off. I kinda want to see Tropic Thunder, but I always figure a comedy will be just as funny as on the small screen as it will on the big.

I did see DeathRace though, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Just sit back, turn off the brain, and enjoy the pretty crashes and explosions, and occasional jiggle.
