Yesterday I went into Houston to take some stuff to Russ and to pick up some supplies.

I just baaaaarely got back under my own power, with the help of a AAA call.

A vacuum line came uncoupled on the engine, and wouldn't stay re-coupled. There was too much gas, oil and crud on the coupling to seal it with tape.

Power was badly down on the way home.

More worrisome... the oil gauge on the Exploder has no numbers. It has a "normal" range, with the word "normal" much smaller than the range market, a very small red zone by L, and an equally sized white zone by H. I guesstimate that mid-range on the gauge is 30 PSI. By that guess, the oil pressure- with the oil stick measuring pretty much full- was riding at not more than 10 PSI when I got home.

And AggieCon next weekend.

Fun, fun, fun.

(Oh; and the one treat I gave myself on this trip, a $30 Civil War computer game, turned out to be a badly overcomplicated and kludgy piece of shit running on the same engine as Birth of America, a game I also bought and learned to loathe. NOT a happy day.)

Back when I was driving the Chevy Nova that was actually some kind of Toyota, I had a vacuum line problem that would cause inexplicable power loss while on the highway - pulling off the highway and making some tight turns would cure the problem temporarily. We finally "solved" the issue by setting the engine on fire. That's why the cans of carburetor cleaner say 'turn engine off before using'.

Actually, we got 400,000 miles out of that car.
