But it wasn't. Isn't.
And today, here at the house, the temperature never got above 70.
70. For a high. In southeast Texas. In mid-May.
This is almost certainly the last cool snap there'll be until October, so I decided to take advantage of it to get the Exploder's rear up in the air and drain the gas tank with the new siphon pump.
Pushing the Exploder back and forth to get two large pieces of plyboard underneath proved quite simple. Unfortunately, putting the rear wheels up on jack stands ran afoul of my being one jack stand short for some reason. I used it to elevate the driver's side, where the gas tank is, to make siphoning easier.
And I didn't get to completely drain the tank, either. I had thought that we'd used up the leftover gas from Hurricane Ike and the generator- wrong. Two of our good gas cans were still damn near full. Using the space left in those cans and in the empty, never-before-used cans, I only managed to drain about seven to eight gallons of gas- leaving somewhere between five and seven gallons still in the tank.
And not much more can be done until after A-Kon. I'll be borrowing a cargo van for that- and the extra cargo space will come in handy.
Do wish I could have done more, though. In June it's going to be incredibly hot, humid and uncomfortable work...
