Some of you have responded to my complaints, contempt, and outright opposition to certain people, especially Barack Obama, with some variant of, "But I HAVE to vote for Democrats, because otherwise Republicans will win!"
Well, look how well that's worked out for the voters of Alabama.
Forget the Democratic Party label. It is meaningless. The sole true unifying principle of the Democratic Party is power- gaining it and retaining it. The same party which claims to defend the poor and oppose corporations is more than happy to allow people like Joe Liebermann, Joe Manchin, Ben Nelson, Bobby Bright, Heath Shuler, etc. into its ranks- small-government, pro-wealth, anti-welfare people who do everything in their power to sabotage their own party's stated goals.
Vote in support of what you believe in- not according to a worthless label.

The four Democrats in the Alabama House of Representatives who switched parties Monday, give Republicans the necessary majorities in both chambers of the Legislature to vote as a bloc to bring up their agenda or to shut down delays from Democrats.

The legislators said they would be able to better serve their constituents in the Republican Party, which they said better represents their beliefs. They said they believe in small businesses and small government.
"To serve my people the best I can, I felt the Republican Party was the place for me," Boothe said.

The Alabama Democratic Party criticized the move of the men, which just won re-election with the physical and financial help and votes of Democrats.

The Alabama Democratic Party also pointed out that Hurst received more than $50,000 from the Democratic House caucus in his re-election bid. Also, party officials pointed out, Boothe and Millican had no opposition this year.
