... even if the person acknowledging them doesn't agree with them.
On an irregular basis I respond to posts at Andrew Sullivan's blog by email. (He doesn't have open comments, due to the certainty of uncivil discourse.)
Today marks the third time he's posted my response as a dissent. And in this particular case I'd sent a long, somewhat rambling letter basically explaining why I thought he was one hundred percent wrong in his continued support of Obama. If he used it at all, I thought, it'll only be an excerpt.
Nope. He posted the whole thing, calling it "a doozy of a dissent."
He definitely isn't persuaded by what I said- he still thinks Obama is a political genius of some sort- but at least my views weren't written off as wackjob twaddle. He thought them worth recognition, by himself and others, as a valid opposition to his own- and that flatters me and gratifies me very much.
In the meantime, in addition to surrendering to Republicans, Obama has now surrendered to the hard-right Israeli government, which means in all probability that Palestinian peace talks are doomed. Looks like President Abbas is right to go ahead with unilateral independence and international recognition- which Palestine now has from two nations. He's certainly not going to get anything from America- except broken promises.

Where's the Hidden Camera?
Date: 2010-12-07 10:26 pm (UTC)The Republicans come across as less the 'evil government side' and more like a parody of themselves, that nobody could possibly take seriously (but everyone is), and Obama has turned into a parody of a 'nice guy president' taken to the point of insanity. Nobody could really be that spineless, that willing to stand up and get punched in the crotch by the Republicans again and again and again.
When did US politics turn into a Monty Python black humour sketch?
This all has to be one big joke on everyone, right? Please?
-- Brett, who's really not laughing.
