I got hammered today with the System Repair virus. It doesn't seem to have harmed any business-related files, but even after repairs my All Programs listing on the Start menu is gutted, as are most of the quick-start icons.

So, I'm down $45 for the "oh, don't worry, we're shareware- oh, did you want us to actually FIX your computer? Pay up, bitch" software (p. s. FUCK YOU SO VERY MUCH, TROJAN KILLER), plus a ton of annoyance as I try to get the desktop machine usable again.

If I had the cash, this would be a PERFECT goad to upgrade the desktop- it's slow-running as it is, and still on XP, with a 40 GB HD and a 0.5 gig processor.
