Proposed by the same man, Rep. Lamar Smith, as it happens.

It's called the Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011, and it's yet another attempt to abolish privacy- not just on the Internet, but anywhere.

As written, The Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011 doesn't require that someone be under investigation on child pornography charges in order for police to access their Internet history -- being suspected of any crime is enough. (It may even be made available in civil matters like divorce trials or child custody battles.) Nor do police need probable cause to search this information. As Rep. James Sensenbrenner says, (R-Wisc.) "It poses numerous risks that well outweigh any benefits, and I'm not convinced it will contribute in a significant way to protecting children."

So what I want to know is: who's going to go on strike to protest THIS one?

EDIT: Current status of the House version is "on the Union Calendar," which one source characterizes as, "being abandoned." The Senate version has been stuck in committee since May of last year. That doesn't mean the bill is dead- only sleeping until an opportunity arises to pass it in secret or slip it into a must-pass bill as an amendment. Be warned- this is still on the agenda of BOTH political parties, and only constant vigilance and opposition will have any hope of thwarting it.

Dodgy bastards, they are. Dressing it up as anti-porn; did they not do something like this before? My un-caffeine augmented brain is not finding files this morning, but I swear they did this once before and am trying to remember what stopped it then?

Similar provisions in regards to library activity are part of USA-PATRIOT.

And they haven't been stopped yet.
