Dialup Internet options:
(1) Livingston city telephone co. <-- my account, after they bought up a mom&pop
(2) Rural phone co-op
(3) Electric co-op
The end.
Today's tech support options:
Call local number for texaport, since unable to get email but all other Internet works fine. Suspect email server down.
Ring. Ring. "Hello?"
"What's wrong with your email server?"
"Er... what?"
"What's wrong with your email server? I can't get or receive email!"
"Er... here's our tech support number." (provides 1-877 number which is almost certainly out of state, likely out of country, and has no knowledge whatever of the actual state of the email server)
"No. The problem's not on my end. I've checked. What's wrong with your email server?"
"I'm sorry, but our tech support number is (1-877-bla-blah)."
"Thanks for nothing."
Yes, I was rude. I've played this game with them before. I'm sick of it. Unfortunately, there are no good alternatives.
Feh. If I hit the lotto, I'm hauling the grands to Austin or something.
