Harem Anime, Yay

redneckgaijinI've been re-acquainting myself with TenchiMuyo lately, partly in preparation for the third OAV series, partly to distract me from Hosto & Buchan's phone calls promising, not threatening, lawsuit for an old credit card debt.
Of course, since Tenchi came out back in the early 1990s, a host of "harem anime" have come out (one guy has the romantic attention of multiple girls). Other anime preceded Tenchi in the genre, but Tenchi defines it.
Today I gave a little thought: why is it the formula is never reversed? Why not one girl collecting a harem of several guys, all hot for her?
It took a while for the voice of reason to explain to me: "Because, you idiot, that's no different from real life."
Oh well. So much for bucking a trend. Back to writing boobie porn.
