The automatic cold water shutoff valve inside your washer is a vital piece of machinery.

You do not want to find out that it is broken by walking into your laundry room... your carpeted laundry room... your carpeted laundry room with piles and boxes of clothes of unknown ownership... your carpeted laundry room with piles and boxes of clothes of unknown ownership that also serves as the home of your deep freeze... and finding it half awash in water.

However, circumstances pretty much require that this be the ONLY way you find out that it is broken.

As I did a bit more than an hour ago.

Back to laundry and trying to towel and box-fan out the water...

Look on the bright side -- this will give you a legitimate excuse to JUNK a lot of those "clothes of unknown ownership", because they'll have been ruined by sitting in the water and/or having other stuff fade on them.

Well, I don't want to do that, because what was at the BOTTOM of those piles were all my sweatsuits... which have been missing for over TWO YEARS...

Sweatsuits are cotton. A little cold water won't hurt them, and you probably don't care if they're a bit stained. Also, those aren't of unknown ownership!

In theory yes, but considering the calls we put on them for new floor and carpet for other rooms -BEFORE- Hurricane Rita, and then damage claims from that, I don't know what, if any, help they're likely to be for a wet floor.
