No matter what the consequences, impeachment must at least be tried... at least, that's my argument. Even a Democratic defeat in 2008 due to impeachment is not as bad as a Democratic victory in a world where George W. Bush has been proven right about his theory of a "unitary executive."

I expect a lot of disagreement, based on answers to the questions meme I started, but that's how I feel.

Sadly, I really suspect impeachment won't happen... not just because Democrats want to win, but because a lot of Democrats want all that power to spy, to pry, to conceal, and to war for their OWN use...

This is something I noticed since shortly after 9/11, and something I am certain I would have been squawking about even when I was a good little Christian in seminary; George Bush has been a tyrant who has set a precedent for tyranny, and the Christian Right who put him in power will have themselves to thank when his successors want to use their tyrannical powers on them.

Of course, this is completely ignoring the 8+ years of tyranny that the rest of America and the whole world - except maybe for the Rabid Right - will have had to endure under the rule of George Bush's idiot son.

Impeachment?

The trouble is that since the Republicans tried to impeach Teflon Willy Clinton, Impeachment has been bandied about like it was the cure for every woe in the world.
It isn't. Not even close.
Every time impeachment is brought up nationally, it loses some of its effectiveness as a tool for the removal of really dangerous Presidents...and Bush isn't: he's too incompetent.
Instead of Impeachment, why not try getting a competent President elected for a change, rather then the current "Hawt" politiciain/contender.
We do have a wonderful system: We get the government we deserve, not what we want. If we want better; let's try putting a competent Executive in office, rather than the puppets being offered by the two main Political parties. Let's start using the system the way it was meant to be used, and not the way it's currently being used to maintain the status quo.

I disagree. I believe Bush, especially egged on by Cheney, is extremely dangerous.

As for getting a president not a puppet of the existing parties, bear in mind how difficult it is for non-Democrat, non-Republican candidates to get on ballots in most states. From 1992 to 2004- four elections- no more than five candidates in any given year got on the ballot in enough states to challenge a majority of the electoral college. Getting a -good- president may be impossible. Instead we need to focus on getting rid of a president so bad that his continued term of office poses an active threat to the very existence of our republic.

"Phaemon's dog was right."

And in so saying, Vitellus proved his whole life's virtue was a lie.

Unfortunately, we the voters are playing not the dogs but Phaemon, and now have to face the fact that the loyalty of our dogs (our elected representatives) is tenuous at best, nonexistent at words, no matter how well trained and loving they appear.
